Building a Healthier Future with the Integrated Health Initiative (IHI)

At Bayview, we are proud to be part of a forward-thinking vision for a healthier, more prosperous future for New Brunswick. Imagine an interconnected ecosystem where health research drives meaningful change, talented professionals converge to innovate, and economic growth is fueled alongside improved health outcomes. This vision is becoming a reality at the University of New Brunswick's (UNB) Saint John campus through the Integrated Health Initiative (IHI).

With IHI, UNB is not only imagining the future of health—it’s actively creating it. Through this transformative approach to health education, research, and collaboration, IHI will:

- Educate tomorrow’s health leaders through dynamic, experiential programs.

- Attract leading researchers to develop groundbreaking advancements in health technologies, systems, and policies.

- Generate tailored solutions for the unique health challenges facing New Brunswick.

- Support the growth of Saint John’s health and social innovation sectors with essential infrastructure.

- Partner with the private sector to facilitate knowledge transfer and commercialization of health innovations.

The Health and Social Innovation Centre: A Hub for Innovation and Collaboration

Centrally located on the Saint John campus with sweeping views of the Kennebecasis River, the Health and Social Innovation Centre is designed for interdisciplinary learning and research. With proximity to Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Community College Allied Health program, and the Saint John Regional Hospital, this facility will encourage collaboration across institutions and the private sector to foster new ideas and partnerships.

This state-of-the-art building has been designed with flexibility in mind to meet current and future needs:

- Lower Level: Connected to the campus tunnel system, the lower level will include a central classroom for undergraduate health programs, a campus bookstore, and retail spaces.

- First Floor: Houses collaborative workspaces, informal learning areas, and the campus Teaching and Learning Centre.

- Second Floor: Dedicated to research, including labs for projects in digital health transformation, public health, and health policy management, as well as IHI administration offices.

- Third Floor: An adaptable, open-concept space perfect for student and faculty gatherings, thesis defenses, and guest lectures.

- Healing Garden: Located to the south of the building, this garden honours New Brunswick’s Indigenous heritage and UNB’s commitment to truth and reconciliation.
